Jerry Reyes, Chief of Education Services~
Jerry Reyes was raised in San Dimas, California before moving to Colorado Springs to care for his parents. In 1995, he relocated to Victorville, and has been a part of the High Desert community for seventeen years. He graduated summa cum laude with a B.A. in English Literature from the University of La Verne, where he also worked in the Doctoral Registration and Finance Office. He obtained his teaching credential from California State University, San Bernardino, and has been with the Victor Elementary School District at an upper-grade elementary teacher since 2008. His pedagogical philosophy reflects his Christian underpinnings: teaching children the ethical values they need to become respectful, empathetic people who focus on integrity, charity, accountability, fairness, trustworthiness, and honesty. Jerry enjoys reading (especially Austenian, Shakespearian, and detective fiction); studying foreign languages and elevated vocabulary; and discussing ontological philosophy with his family and close friends. Though he possesses an aversion to traveling and social activities, Jerry nonetheless seeks to make a difference for the Lord’s honor, and is especially concerned about the apathy so many people take toward the homeless, the elderly, the poor, battered women and children, and those who have been marginalized because of social stigmas. Praying that God will use him to make a positive difference in the lives of others, his shibboleth as a Christian is that, despite whatever personal biases each of may have, our goal as Christians is to “love others into” our faith though tolerance, kindness, and compassion.
